Historic Ralph's Service Station

Historic Ralph's Service Station

Ralph's Service Station pumps no gas, and provides no service.

The station is located in the historic Armory Park Neighborhood, and was built from a pre-fabricated kit purchased in 1929 from the Sears & Roebuck catalog by Ralph Montijo, Sr.

It is located at the corner of S. Fourth Avenue and 19th Street.

Neither street was paved at the time, and after 8 years the enterprise folded due in no small measure to the great depression, and the resulting decline in vehicle traffic.

Candelabra will be showing installation and recent works by Marcy Miranda Janes.

There will be a opening reception for Janes’ “Story of an Empty Nest” on Saturday, March 19th from 6pm to 10pm. The gallery will also be open at other times, by appointment only.

The gallery is located at 412 E. 7th Street, near Che’s on Fourth Avenue.

Artist Marcy Miranda Janes is an Oregon-born paper and fiber artist living in Tucson where the abundance of fantastic insects, odd birds and spiny plants become symbols of longings, memories, dread, and hope in the forms of cut-paper pelvis valentines, carved books, and baptismal gown lamps.

Influenced by Victorian valentines, Mexican papel picado, field notebooks, travel diaries and mythology, this show features elements of bone, clay, teeth, roots, and seeds in addition to cut paper pieces.

Guerilla Masquerade Party Hosts the brIDES of March

Submitted by Michelle Leigh,

Tonight (Tuesday March 15th), a new club in Tucson called Guerilla Masquerade Party will be holding a pub crawl for the Ides of March. This event is called the brIDES of March, and everyone will be dressed as brides.

We will start at 6pm at The Hut on 4th Avenue, and get faux-married to the tiki god. Then we'll make our way up the street, stopping in pubs and restaurants to surprise patrons.

Everyone will be dressed as a bride, even men!

Guerilla Masquerade Party is a once-a-month event where we choose a theme and plan a meeting at a local bar. Usually it turns into a club crawl involving karaoke bars and/or dance clubs.

New company hopes to brew up some business in downtown Tucson

New company hopes to brew up some business in downtown Tucson

A new brewery company is starting up in hopes of bringing a tasteful new addition to downtown Tucson.

Borderlands Brewing Company is the creation of two friends, a microbiologist and a medical student, who started experimenting with make-your-own brew kits in their parent's backyard.

Co-founders Myles Stone and Mike Mallozzi began brewing beer more than a year and a half ago and just recently decided to start a microbrewery together.

Mallozzi, the microbiologist, is taking care of the beer side of the microbrewery while Stone, the medical student, will tackle the business aspect of the company.

"I really like the process of brewing beer and it kind of jives with my science background," Mallozzi says.
