Tucsonans joined in celebrating the city’s birthday with a free concert at the historic Fox Theater over the weekend.

There was music from the Reveille Men’s Chorus, plus jazz, flamenco and tejano.

'Our Town' grant to help involve community in Warhouse Arts District

The following is a news release from the Tucson Pima Arts Council:

The Tucson Pima Arts Council received a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the inaugural funding for “Our Town” projects in 51 communities nationwide.

“TPAC’s Our Town grant will support cultural asset mapping and community engagement for Tucson's Historic Warehouse Arts District,” said Roberto Bedoya, TPAC’s executive director.

The clock started as soon as the City Council revised a sign code June 28 to allow restoration of battered and rusting historic signs.

It was more like a stopwatch for Downtown’s most prominent historic sign – the diving lady at the Pueblo Hotel & Apartments office building, 145 S. Sixth Ave.

You’d think getting to work on the diving lady the next day would be pretty fast.

There will be all kinds of classic cars and band boats, plus food and lots of fun activies for the kids. The Tucson Motor Show is happening tomorrow from 10am until 8pm.

It's a place to remember cyclists who have been killed doing what they love.

The Bike Church is near Barrio Anita in the downtown area.

The structure is made out of hundreds of bike frames, wheels and rims.

Art council gets $225 K to help local projects

The following is a news release from the Tucson Pima Arts Council:

The Tucson Pima Arts Council has received grants from two national foundations totaling $225,000 to support local projects that use the arts as a tool to address social issues in the community.

The Nathan Cummings Foundation awarded TPAC $75,000 and the Open Society Institute $150,000. Both awards support the Arts in Tucson P.L.A.C.E initiative launched by TPAC two years ago with $200,000 from The Kresge Foundation. P.L.A.C.E stands for People, Land, Arts, Culture and Engagement.
