Tucson museum to host rock & roll celebration

The following is a news release from the Tucson Museum of Art:

A visual celebration of the marriage of photography and rock & roll will be held at the Tucson Museum of Art October 23, 2011 - January 15, 2012.

Organized by the Brooklyn Museum and guest curated by noted photography scholar Gail Buckland, Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History 1955 to the Present, is a multi-media exhibition that features more than 180 photographs and videos by approximately one hundred artists.

What you are seeing is the brand new Plaza Centro Garage, a grey hulk for several months that just now took on the “dark purply brown” that paint colorists are calling Raisin in the Sun.

Keep going to Sixth Avenue and you’ll see the bright kaleidoscope of color across from the Ronstadt Transit Center.

The Mexican Independence Day Fiesta Mixer & Salsa Dance Party will bring spirited music and festivities to the Rialto Exhibition Center on Sept. 16.

What was the Latin Jazz Festival the past two years, has expanded into a night-long collaboration between the Tucson Jazz Society, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Tucson Partnership.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – Fourth Avenue businesses are gearing up for larger crowds this Labor Day weekend.

The district is well-known for the street fairs it holds twice a year and its large selection of locally-owned businesses.  With college students back and a football game scheduled this weekend, Fourth avenue is once again holding “Rendezvous on Fourth Avenue” to offer things to do outside those times when the street fairs attract the crowds.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) –  From taking in tunes to hanging out with friends, the “beach party” for Tucson’s 236th birthday on Saturday on Fourth Avenue and at Main Gate Square offered plenty of reasons to hit the town.

"I'm just down here to have some fun, feel some vibes, hang out around good people,” said Alicia Gershweir as she listened to the band One Heart Beat.
