TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- The city of Tucson has issued the following information for people who want to see the Parade of Lights on Saturday night:
TRAFFIC ALERT
DOWNTOWN WEEKEND EVENTS – TRAVEL INFORMATION
Downtown Tucson will be the host of the 18th Annual Downtown Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 15, 2012. The parade will stage on Franklin Street between Granada Avenue and Stone Avenue beginning at 5 p.m. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m., proceeds south on Granada Avenue and turns east on Alameda Street to Stone Avenue. The parade then turns north on Stone Avenue to Franklin Street, turn west on Franklin Street and ends at Church Avenue.
Attendees of the parade are encouraged to arrive early in order to avoid traffic detours necessary for the event. More information about the Downtown Parade of Lights may be found at: www.downtowntucson.org. Please note that pedestrian and bicycle access is being maintained in and around road closures. Businesses, parking garages and parking lots are open and accessible. There are over 15,000 available parking spaces in the Downtown Tucson. Below is the vehicular travel restrictions associated with this event.
Downtown Parade of Lights – Beginning Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 4 p.m., until approximately 8:30 p.m. Franklin Street between Granada and Stone Avenues will be closed. (Church Avenue will remain open until 6 p.m., to give access to the parade route and staging areas) Also at 4 p.m., Main Avenue between Franklin Street and Alameda Street will be closed. At Approximately 5 p.m., Granada Avenue from Sixth Street/St Marys Boulevard, and Stone Avenue from Sixth Street to Pennington Street, as well as Alameda Street from Granada Avenue to Scott Avenue will be closed. Finally, at 6 p.m., Church Avenue between Pennington Street and Sixth Street will be closed. All streets should reopen to traffic at approximately 8:30 p.m..
Motorists driving in the downtown area may experience traffic delays associated with this event and several road improvement projects, including the Sun Link Tucson Streetcar project, so please plan accordingly. Attendees of the parade are encouraged to arrive early in order to avoid traffic detours necessary for the event. The traveling public should use caution when driving, bicycling or walking in these areas. Please watch for event participants, obey all traffic control, and watch for detour signs and personnel providing traffic control.
