HSSA calling on the community for help with $100K Challenge

Tucson’s own Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) has made it past the first round of shelters picked to compete in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, and is calling again on the community’s help to get to the next step.

In order for the HSSA to win the $100K top prize they have to break their own previous records for adoptable pets and lives saved.  The HSSA has set the goal to 3,000 dogs and cats finding forever homes or reuniting with ‘lost’ families, by October 31.  They will be competing against 49 other shelters across the country.

“The ASPCA challenge is a perfect way for the Humane Society and community to work together for a common goal that ultimately gets animals adopted to their forever homes,” says Samantha Esquivel, spokeswoman.

To get the ball rolling on breaking records, the HSSA will be hosting several events, the first of which is a Late Night event on August 3, at their main shelter.  Their adoption lobby will be open until 9 p.m., and there will be free eegee’s available (from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.).  Adopters can also stop by and purchase merchandise from the HSSA PAWSH store, before they scan the pets available for adoption.  Also at this event will be FREE adoptions of adult cats and mixed-breed dogs over 25 pounds.

The FREE adoptions won’t be stopping after this event, they will continue throughout August.   Stay tuned for future dates and locations.

Here is a list of upcoming events hosted by the HSSA during the three-month Challenge (spoiler alert: these might be some of the locations for FREE adoptions!)  So mark your calendar and prepare to bring home a ‘fur’ever friend at one of these events:

  • Royal Buick Dog Days of Summer adoption event – August 18
  • The Furbaby Fiesta three day event – September 28-20 (at the main shelter)
  • HabiStore adoption event – October 27

There will be more detailed information available as the dates for these events approaches.

The $100K Challenge begins August 1!  Why not come down and find a new ‘fur’ever friend at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and help them win the $100,000 for these deserving  shelter animals!
