The City of Tucson and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of the Downtown Links Project, on November 28 at 9:30 a.m. The site for the event will be the triangle of Davis Street, Hughes Street and Sixth Street.
It will be a celebration of the beginning of construction on the second phase of the project, which includes the reconstruction of St. Mary’s Road / Sixth Street, from I-10 to Church Avenue by Borderland Construction. The work is expected to take approximately 15 months to complete.
This second phase will include drainage, lighting and safety improvements as well as concrete sidewalks, six-foot bike lanes, desert landscaping, public art, median islands, asphalt paving, and a new bike/pedestrian (TOUCAN) crossing in the vicinity of Davis School.
This is a project of the Regional Transportation Authority. The voter-approved, $2.1 billion RTA plan will be implemented through 2026.
Details about the full plan are available at www.RTAmobility.com.
