Tucson announces 'Water Smart' program to conserve precious commodity

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild joined other city officials this morning in announcing a new water conservation and efficiency program, called Water Smart.

The program, unlike Beat the Peak--which is seasonal--will be in place the year round, and is aimed at overall reduction in water consumption through education and incentive programs, such as the High Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program.

Since 2009, that initiative has offered rebates for the replacement of nearly 12,000 less efficient fixtures in the city.
